Dan was born and raised in Western New York. He is a graduate of Buffalo State College, and attended law school at Western New England College in Springfield, Mass., where he obtained his law degree in 1989. Throughout law school, Dan concentrated his efforts in both criminal and civil litigation.
After law school, he returned to Western New York and began working under the direct tutelage of the founder of the firm, John E. Nicholas. Shortly thereafter, an opportunity was presented to Dan to open up a new branch of the existing law firm in the Central New York area. In 1993, the firm opened its doors in Syracuse, New York, under the management and supervision of Dan Smith. The new firm became known as Nicholas, Perot, Smith, Welch & Smith, which now serves the entire Central New York area, including Syracuse, Utica, Watertown, Elmira, and Rochester.
Upon John Nicholas’s retirement in May 2004, Dan was presented with the opportunity to take over for his mentor and became President of the law offices of Nicholas, Perot, and Smith. He currently resides in Central New York, but spends a great deal of his time in all of the offices. He enjoys sports, travel, the outdoors, and spending time with his family.
Dan is a member of numerous County Bar Associations, the New York State Bar Association, the New York Trial Lawyers Association, and is a member in good standing of the American Association of Justice’s Nursing Home Litigation group.
Larry Perot was born in Buffalo and raised in Lancaster, New York.
After completing his undergraduate work at SUNY-Albany, Larry graduated from the SUNY-Buffalo Law School.
He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1981.
Larry focuses his practice on negligence claims, Social Security Disability claims, and estates.
He is licensed to practice in all New York State courts as well as the U.S. District Court, Western District of New York, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Western District of New York.
He is a member of the Erie County Bar Association and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.
Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Attorney Michael Koehler earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Gannon University. After attending the Boston University of Law and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1989.
Mr. Koehler served as a Judicial Law Clerk for both the Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas and the Honorable Dante Pellegrini of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. He returned to Erie in 1992 to enter private practice where he represented clients in Personal Injury, Vehicle Accident, and Workers’ Compensation cases.
In 1995 Mr. Koehler joined Nicholas, Perot, Smith, Koehler, & Wall. He became Managing Partner in 1998.
Mr. Koehler focuses his practice on representing injured victims in cases involving Vehicle Accidents, Product Liability, Premises Liability, Wrongful Death, Workers’ Compensation claims, and Social Security Disability appeals.
He is a twenty-year member of the Erie County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations and licensed to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a former member of the Erie County Convention Center Authority and Erie Port Authority.
He assists with a AA travel hockey team based in Cleveland, Ohio as a Level 4 USA Hockey Coach.
Mr. Koehler currently resides in the McKean Township with his wife and three children.
Thomas P. Wall, II
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, and raised in central Illinois, Mr. Wall received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at Illinois College, graduating magna cum laude. He later earned his J.D. degree from the College of Law at the University of Illinois in 1992. While attending the University of Illinois, Mr. Wall served on the National Moot Court Environmental Law Team for two years.
From 1992-1997 Mr. Wall continued to expand his knowledge of law, science, and litigation. He worked as a quality assurance/quality control officer for an environmental chemistry company in Minnesota and later served as a consultant for a law firm handling complex litigation between two fortune 500 companies.
Since being admitted to the State Bar in Pennsylvania in September of 1997 his focus has been on representing injured victims in cases like Vehicle Accidents, Workers’ Compensation, and Social Security Disability claims.
A member of the Pennsylvania and Missouri State Bar Associations as well as the Erie County Bar Association, Mr. Wall is licensed to practice in all PA and MO state courts as well as Federal District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
He has served on committees for the Erie County Bar Association, including the Civil Rules Committee, the Workers’ Compensation Committee, and the Legal Journal Committee.
In late 2010, Nicholas, Perot, Smith, Koehler & Wall opened new offices in Columbia, Missouri and the Saint Louis, Missouri area where Mr. Wall serves as Managing Partner. He continues to handle select cases in Pennsylvania while managing the Missouri offices and is a certified mediator, approved for Federal Court mediation in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Wall is also involved in several pro bono programs, including the LAVA program and has taught at Mercyhurst College as an Adjunct Professor of Law teaching Environmental Law.
He currently resides in Ballwin, Missouri, with his wife and two children and is active in several community organizations.
